The popular 60’s Rock N’ Roll band from central Iowa, Sunshine Tomorrow, will perform on 30 Jun 2007 for the South Hamilton High School Class of ’67 class reunion. Here is a synopsis of the band: >p

Band Hometown: Jewell, Iowa
Years Together: 1965 – 1970
Band Members: Brian Vaubel, Bass; Gail Vaubel, Guitar; Loren Luppes, Organ and Guitar; Selwyn Rash, Vocals and Guitar; and Brian Holt, drums and cow bell.
Influences: Beatles, Beach Boys, Grassroots, any top 40 song with a good beat, easy to play and difficult to sing with lots of harmonies.
Songs from set list: Birthday, Day Tripper, Get Back, Jezebel (Rumbles version) Mercy, Mercy, Mercy; Straight Shooter (Mama’s and Papa’s); Sloop John B., Venus, I Got a Line on You, Proud Mary, Medicine Man, Wait a Million Years, Light My Fire, Midnight Hour, Knock on Wood, Long Tall Texan, Somebody Help Me, Born To Be Wild, Show Me A Man, and Journey to the Center of Your Mind.
Best Gig: Iowa State University dance after Bill Cosby concert. Estimated 2000 enthusiastic and drunk dancers jammed into the hall. A sea of heads bobbing up and down.
Gig From Hell: Our very first gig as the entertainment at a horse club meeting in Dayton, Ia. We played our five songs and nearly everyone clapped politely. While packing up, someone dropped the home made lights breaking all the bulbs and we lost money on our very first appearance!!
Last Gig: A prom, in maybe Williams, Ia
Equipment used: Vox Super Beatles, Vox Buchingham, Hammond organ with Leslie speakers, Turner 500 Mics, Guild Echorec by Binson, Hofner Violin bass, Gretsch Country Gentleman, Gibson ES-330, Rickenbacker, Rogers drums and home made lights.
Rehearsal space: Turkey brooder house
Band vehicle: 64 Chevy Impala pulling tandem trailer.
Band Fashion Statement: 60’s mod. Also dark blue blazers, grey slacks and Beatle boots.
Bio of the band: Started out by renting Harmony, guitars and drums and eventually working up to equipment listed above after cycling through Sears, Gibson, Fender Bandmasters, Bassman, and Super Reverb amps. Bought most equipment from B-Sharp Music in Minneapolis, MN. Stayed quite popular right up to the end. Hung it up due to low draft numbers and graduating from college – Iowa State and University of Northern Iowa. Played mostly in central Iowa high schools, colleges. Did cross the border into South Dakota on one occasion. The original members stayed together the entire time and remain best of friends yet today.
Where are they now?: Brian Vaubel is president of St Mary’s State Bank in St Mary’s, KS. Loren is CEO of Staley Foods International, in Decatur, IL, Selwyn is senior accountant at Sho-Dust Industries in Randall, IA, Brian Holt is retired from Executive Director to the Hamilton County Conservation Department, Hamilton County, Ia and living in Stratford, IA, and Gail is a retired Lt Col from USAF, living in Beavercreek, OH.
Other comments: Last band reunion was in 1986 for South Hamilton High School (SHHS), Class of 66 reunion. Next reunion will be Jun 30, 2007 at the golf course clubhouse in Jewell, IA for SHHS Class of ’67 reunion.
